Human voice or AI?

Yes, I know. Everyone talks about AI voices these days. But science has something to say. The Media Psychology Lab at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, led by researcher Emma Rodero, compared the impact of human and synthetic voices through neuroscientific analysis in a study published in New Media & Society. The result? Human voices capture more attention and generate a significantly stronger emotional response in the nervous system. With a human voice, listeners remember more and create richer mental images. Synthetic voices, on the other hand, generate rejection. Rodero calls it the “human emotional intimacy effect”: a human voice connects with the emotional brain. An artificial one does not.
